Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava met with Friends of the Commodore Trail representatives on Friday for her personal Commodore Trail update. With her, she brought senior leaders from both the County’s transportation and parks organizations–one measure of the growing importance of your Commodore Trail.

The Friends focused on three points:

Priority: Keep building the Commodore Trail’s upward momentum among the County’s many priorities.

Policy: Safety First. Ensuring all users’ safety promotes use and value to all.

Practical: South Bayshore’s new design will establish a Trail benchmark. Detailed workshops can enable substantial improvements in safety and usability.

As a result, DTPW’s Josenrique Cuento and Carlos Cruz-Casas will arrange safety workshops in which the Friends will advocate for sane traffic, and wider separate use paths. Parks’ leader Maria Nardi–and her able planning team led by Alejandro Zizold–will engage on tree canopy details and coordinate with City of Miami parks. (Think ‘Kennedy Park pump station’.)

This County leadership team was convincing in its sincerity and ability to make things happen for the Trail. On your behalf, we committed the Friends’ strong and steady advocacy to keep up the public support and guidance.  Your voice and support makes that possible.  Thanks.
